Relay for Life | Sioux Falls family photographer

Relay for Life was one of those emotional experiences that is hard to put into words.  I joined Craig Lee to help photograph survivors and their families – their portraits were printed {courtesty of Harold’s Photo} and then each person was given the opportunity to share their story in writing and have it hung on the wall.  Each person that I met was there to fight back against cancer, to celebrate surviving, or to remember a lost loved one.  So powerful and humbling!  During a break I stepped into the ceremony and watched the survivors take the first loop where doctors and other medical professionals were waiting to hand out medals to each person.  I noticed an older man in a wheelchair showing his medal to a young man and stopped to photograph the intereaction and realized the older man was Dale, a dear co-worker who has been battling cancer.  We both immediately broke down in tears, hugging each other for a few moments.  I could hear his family asking him who I was, and it was so neat to see him again, to meet his family, and to see him fighting back against this awful disease.  So many people are affected by cancer, and I am proud to say that I relay for each and every one of them!
